So why build baby furniture?
  • Satisfaction: Not everyone takes the time to build from baby furniture plans. It is much easier to go out to Walmart and buy a crib, cradle, changing table, whatever from a Chinese factory. By constructing baby furniture yourself, you earn admiration, respect, appreciation, and love. Whoever receives the furniture knows it is a meaningful gesture because of the work that went into it.
  • Safety: When you build baby furniture, you know what went into it. You know the quality and strength of the wood, so you know how safe and protected the baby will be. You know whether the stains and paints you used are hazardous, so you can be certain that all materials are baby-safe. No matter what the manufacturer labels at the baby furniture outlets say, it is difficult to be confident in what you are really getting.
  • Sustainability: Because you can control what goes into your personalized baby furniture, you can also control its impact on the environment. By choosing woods with rapid growth rates and/or dedicated farming methods, you are reducing unnecessary deforestation. By selecting paints, stains, and sealers that are low-VOC or zero-VOC, you are purposefully saying that babies and mommas (and daddies!) shouldn't have to breathe in junk.
  • Handmade baby cribs, made with your choice of wood and style, are functional, beautiful, and meaningful. It is a definite expression of love that will last for many years.
  • Convertible baby cribs save money. Instead of buying a crib, then a few years later buying a toddler bed, and a few years after that buying a twin bed (and figuring out what to do with all the baby furniture you're getting rid of!), you can just build one convertible baby crib.
  • Baby cradle plans allow you to customize the cradle to your tastes, room configuration, and budget.
  • Baby changing tables are an essential part of any nursery. Make a combo changing table/dresser and you have another piece of furniture that can grow with the child.
